About Kaja Gam DesignKaja Gam Design is a full-service restoration and interior design company. Founded in 1993, Gam and her crew of artist and artisans have completed work in homes and apartments in Manhattan, New Jersey, the Hamptons and Westchester. Commenting on this experience, Gam notes that “we are able to fulfill most any renovation or restoration work desired by homeowners. I am very fortunate to have a team of the finest crafts people and technicians. This allows me to pursue a great variety of work.” Called by some to consult from the ground up, Gam assists clients by creating color palettes, reconfiguring spaces to meet lifestyle changes, drawing up plans for everything from new plumbing and wiring, to mirroring existing magnificent woods through custom designs and using her European techniques for faux bois, at which she is a master. About KajaA life marked by new frontiers, both personal and professional, Kaja Gam has put her arms around a myriad of careers and experiences and enfolded them into what she deems her final work and passion: Interior Design and Historic Restoration. Her extraordinary eclectic life of travel, study, and work has combined to make Kaja Gam the perfect answer for anyone who has decided to restore or redecorate a home. Her work in New York as a color conceptualist, interior designer, contractor, and decorative faux painter has drawn Gam to the attention of many notables. She has worked in the homes of both John and Steven Stark of carpet fame; socialites Betsy von Furstenberg and Eileen Guggenheim; and on assignments by designers Joey Horton, Penny Drue Baird, Trisha Rieger, and Tony Lambert. Gam as both artist and contractor is able to design and direct entire home designs and restorations. Her tastes were refined and broadened by her early travels through Near East Asia and Europe, while her painting techniques were honed to perfection by masters of the painted finish in both Denmark and New York City. Trained in the European guild tradition and later at studios in the United States, Gam’s reputation as one of the finest contemporary muralists and faux painters at work today is on the rise. Gam supervised the murals that can be seen at the Redeye Grill, a popular restaurant near Carnegie Hall, as well as a series of small paintings for the owner Shelly Fireman’s Shelly’s New York on 57th street. In 2003 she completed 2 large paintings for the Glidden Paint Company’s market color presentation using only whites. Born in Copenhagen, schooled there, and in France and the United States, Gam's work experience has included scenic design and faux finish restoration in Denmark and the United States. As a young woman, getting side-tracked was one of her major charms. Her myriad careers as a theatre artist, choreographer, filmmaker, computer projects coordinator in banking, and conference coordinator at the New York Foundations for the Arts were the building blocks upon which she has constructed her present company Kaja Gam Design.
