Traditionally, the holiday season is filled with an
abundance of red and green, blue and silver.
However, whether you celebrate Christmas or
Hanukah or any other holiday, you can deck the halls
with the colors of your choice.
Choose your favorite shades and hues then craft a
holiday around them. Do you like metallics? Bronze
or copper decorations would be stunning on a tree or
adorning the Menorah! Is pink your favorite color?
Use it in place of or in addition to the traditional blue
and silver of the holidays.
Gorgeous dried or silk flower arrangements can keep
the holiday spirit alive throughout the season while
bringing a fresh-looking centerpiece to your dinning
room or hall table. Candles - in every color of the
rainbow - are also an inexpensive yet creative way
to decorate. (Tip: Some people are allergic to
scented candles (or prefer unscented). Consider
confining scented candles to small spaces such as
bathrooms or hallways rather than common areas of
your home where people congregate.)
Garlands are always a holiday favorite because they
are versatile and flexible. Garlands look fabulous with
practically any colors you choose leaving you free to
coordinate with your other decorations. They dress
up the fireplace mantle or a bay window. Garlands
intertwine with the banister or dress up your
chandelier. (Tip: Measure the length of garland you
need then buy double the size to allow for swags and
overhangs.) Add bows, flowers, lights, origami birds
or any ornament for a personal touch. Incorporate
dried fruits, nuts, moss, miniature trees, and
evergreen leaves in your arrangements. Using spices
creates wonderful natural fragrances that will please
even the most finicky guest.
Just because it's cold doesn't mean you shouldn't
head outdoors. Take advantage of your deck or
screened in porch. Decorate with lights or candles
and keep a basket of blankets by the door for guests
to wrap in. Consider serving Hot Toddies, cocoa or a
steaming pot of chili. Your guests will really enjoy the
decorations and a breath of fresh air when you keep
them warm and cozy. And that’s what it’s all about!
